The End

Dear Everybody,

It is with so much love and appreciation in our hearts that we want you all to know how much we have loved bringing you the Underground Gypsy Cabaret.  This is a night that has always been as exciting for us as producers and performers as it has been for you as our audience.  We have loved every single moment of it and every single one of you.

It is with an equal sense of melancholy that we must bid you all farewell as we bring the Underground Gypsy Cabaret to a final close.  While this is the end of the night, this is not the end of the fun and mayhem.  Amanda and Kelsey will continue to take the belly dance world by storm, bring you fresh visions of their art through their Black Box Belly Dance Affair, and Brian and Leisl will always be thrusting newer and more exciting events of artistically theatrical proportions at you as they continue to put the polish on a new circus of excitement that will be revealed in Spring (the season of rebirth).

Keep an eye, ear and heart out for what is to come next from all us!  There will be more fabulous nights ahead for all.

Sincerely and forever yours,

Underground Gypsy Cabaret

Underground Gypsy Cabaret returns to Salt Lake City for Friday the 13th of April

The Underground Gypsy Cabaret returns to Bar Deluxe on Friday, April 13, 2012.

Salt Lake City, Utah - The Underground Gypsy Cabaret will return to Salt Lake City's Bar Deluxe (666 South State Street)on Friday, April 13, 2012 and will feature underground bands JuanaGhaniRakatanga,  and Tabla Arabia.  (http://undergroundgypsycabaret.com)

Utah’s fastest growing and most exciting club night, the UndergroundGypsy Cabaret features local and touring underground musicians and an assortment of dance, cabaret, burlesque and cirque performers creating a one-of-a-kind entertainment adventure.  Throughout the night, the audience will experience a variety of exciting and exotic performers that can include belly dancers, contortionists, aerial and trapeze artists, burlesque, magic and illusion, juggling, fire dancing, sword swallowing, and more, all presented to the best live original music!   It is an evening of unbridled passions, pulsating rhythms and undulating melodies spun together with the elemental energies of Gypsy magic. It is a night of pure celebration.

The music for The Underground Gypsy Cabaret is driven by Utah’s own underground Gypsy edge band Juana Ghani whose performances are, according to Beth Clifford of City Weekly, “celebrations of the people they are, the cultures they love.”  Oliver Arditi of LiveUnsigned says Juana Ghani creates “soulful, open, inviting, generous music, both spiritual and sensual, full of love, death, sex, grief, passion and vodka.”  Juana Ghani's music is a marriage of Old World traditions and Rock-n-Roll energy all wrapped up in the dreams of Gypsy legend.  It is at once lively and dark, always teetering on the edge of sanity and taunting Imagination's greatest landscapes.

Gypsy fusion band Rakatanga brings an intoxicatingly energetic performance to the Underground Gypsy Cabaret.   Rakatanga’s music and performances are steeped in the spices of Ukraine and Spain and cooked up with a universal rock-n-roll heat that brings audiences to their feet.

Opening the Underground Gypsy Cabaret with their signature authentic Middle Eastern beats will be the renowned drum ensemble, Tabla Arabia.

Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening will be the notorious Kitty channeling Mae West.  Featured performers for this Underground Gypsy Cabaret include belly dance beauties Amanda Borba and Kelsey Covington, the breathtaking aerial artist Banrion Phoenix, mistress of swords Amina, underground goddess Pamela Offret, the serpentine stylings of The Snakeboy, the sensual strength of pole artist Xandra Motley and many more exciting, spine-tingling acts.

Glen Warchol of the Salt Lake Tribune declared the Underground Gypsy Cabaret to be “Big Fun in a city short on that commodity.”

The Underground Gypsy Cabaret is sponsored by Ogden’s Own Underground Herbal Spirits, SLUG Magazine, Utah Musicians Radio and is supported by XMission.

Bar Deluxe is located at 666 South State Street in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Tickets are$7 at the door.  Doors open at 9:00 p.m.  Must be 21-years or older to attend.

Press Release - January 13 at Bar Deluxe

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Underground Gypsy Cabaret returns to Salt Lake City for Friday the 13th

The Underground Gypsy Cabaret returns to Bar Deluxe on Friday, January 13, 2012.

Salt Lake City, Utah - The Underground Gypsy Cabaret will return to Salt Lake City's Bar Deluxe (666 South State Street) on Friday, January 13, 2012 and will feature underground bands Juana Ghani, Hectic Hobo and Haywire Outfit.  (http://undergroundcabaret.blogspot.com)

The brainchild of belly dance sensation Amanda Borba and musical mastermind Brian Bonell, and brought to life with the help of creative partners Kelsey Covington and Leisl Bonell, The Underground Gypsy Cabaret is a unique club night created to feature local and touring underground musicians and an assortment of dance, cabaret, burlesque and circus performers.  Throughout the night, the audience will experience a variety of exciting and exotic performers that can include belly dancers, contortionists, aerial and trapeze artists, burlesque, magic and illusion, juggling, fire dancing, sword swallowing, and more, all to live music!   It is an evening of unbridled passions, pulsating rhythms and undulating melodies spun together with the elemental energies of Gypsy magic. It is a night of pure celebration!

The music for The Underground Gypsy Cabaret is driven by Utah’s own underground acoustic Gypsy edge band Juana Ghani who, according to indie music reviewer, Oliver Arditi of LiveUnsigned, creates “soulful, open, inviting, generous music, both spiritual and sensual, full of love, death, sex, grief, passion and vodka.”  Juana Ghani's music is a marriage of Old World traditions and Rock-n-Roll energy all wrapped up in the dreams of Gypsy legend.  It is at once lively and dark, always teetering on the edge of sanity and taunting Imagination's greatest landscapes.

Bringing the night of Friday the 13th to an ecstatic climax is Salt Lake City’s vagabond Gypsy Americana band Hectic Hobo presenting a live show that immediately engages the audience, sucking them in and not letting them go until the last cymbal crashes and someone throws water in their face.  Hectic Hobo is the fun that everyone wants to have but doesn’t dare.  Theo McNamatar of The Regal Seagull has said, “Hectic Hobo makes you feel you’ve been at a Devotchka concert on an Irish pirate ship.  And you will do anything to keep from getting back to port.”

Opening the Underground Gypsy Cabaret will be Salt Lake City’s own underground jazz band HaywireOutfit.

Featured performers for this Underground Gypsy Cabaret include the dazzling Master of Ceremonies Jeremy Young, underground goddess Pamela Offret, the breathtaking aerial artist Hope Phoenix, belly dance beauties Amanda Borba and Kelsey Covington, the entrancing fusion of the Lunar Dance Collective, the macabre sorcery of Crepsley the Magician, the sensual strength of pole artist Xandra Motley and many more exciting, spine-tingling acts.
