Celebrate the Equinox at The Underground Gypsy Cabaret!

PRESS RELEASE

The Underground Gypsy Cabaret (formerly known as The Underground Cabaret) will return to Salt Lake City's Bar Deluxe (666 South State Street) on September 23, 2011 and will feature underground bands Juana Ghani and J.P. Whipple & La Dècollatage.

Scintillating dance and intoxicating music once again rule the night as belly dance sensations Amanda Borba and Kelsey Covington partner with the creative duo Brian and Leisl Bonell to weave another magickal night of pure celebration.  The soul-altering music will be enhanced with gravity defying performance art, teasingly titillating burlesque and mesmerizing belly dance to create "a musical experience like nothing else." (Brian Ball, Women's Radio)

Juana Ghani's music is a marriage of Old World traditions and Rock-n-Roll energy all wrapped up in the dreams of Gypsy legend.  It is at once lively and dark, always teetering on the edge of sanity and taunting Imagination's greatest landscapes.  Juana Ghani creates a "soulful, open, inviting, generous music, both spiritual and sensual, full of love, death, sex, grief, passion and vodka."  (Oliver Arditi, LiveUnsigned)  Joining Juana Ghani for the Cabaret will be the beautiful and multi-talented Allison Martin of Bellrave and The Last Look.

Based out of Oregon, Arizona, Utah and Belgium, J.P. Whipple & La Dècollatage come together to spin tales of debauchery and angst that can only be told by those who have lived them.  J.P. Whipple weaves "a weirdly beautiful tapestry of independently minimalistic, whimsical and soulful threads." (Gothic Beauty Magazine)  He "channels the spirit of legends like Tom Waits and Django Reinhardt with his raw, playful songcraft." (San Diego City Beat)

Coming to the Underground Gypsy Cabaret from Paris, France, dark roots banjo player extraordinaire Victor Nox will open the night.

Featured performers include Voodoo Carnivale, underground goddess Pamela Offrett, burlesque beauty Miss Nyx of Sotto Voce, breathtaking aerial artist Hope, hypnotic hula hooper
Heidi Lyn-Butterfly, belly dance queens Amanda Borba and Kelsey Covington and many more exciting, spine-tingling acts.

The show’s producer, Amanda Borba, describes the evening as “sorta Vaudeville, sorta Moulin Rouge, sorta Arabian Nights, all set to fabulously infectious live music!”

In the words of Utah Musicians founder John Farmer: "They put on a helluva show, such an amazing show!"  According to Oliver Arditi, the hard part "will be to remember to come home again afterwards."

Bar Deluxe is located at 666 South State Street in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Tickets are $9 at the door.  Doors open at 8:00 p.m.  Must be 21-years or older to attend.
